3. The instructor uses effective teaching methods to explain concepts clearly.
4. The instructor answers questions when students require clarification.
5. The instructor encourages questions, class discussion, and comments.
6. The instructor uses technology and/or lab time to teach concepts effectively.
7. The instructor is available and flexible for providing individual assistance.
8. The instructor demonstrates enthusiasm for the subject.
9. The instructor’s grading policy and expectations are fair and reasonable.
Additional Comments: Ms. Mendoza is really engaged with her subject and even though I had thought reading classic literature was useless before this class, I now understand that my attitude had been rigid. Because I am interested in history, she helped me see how literature from the past communicates so much about a particular time period. The only issue I have is that sometimes the discussion went a bit off-topic for an extended period. However, she is an exceptional instructor, and while she demanded a lot from the students, she gave us enough opportunity and personal attention to complete the work on time and do well on the assignments.

Support the School Levy!

There is a proposed increase to the school levy on the ballot in next week’s election, and many of our citizens are complaining about it. Nobody wants to pay higher taxes, but guess what? Higher taxes are necessary. The costs of maintaining our schools increase every year due to inflation. School enrollment also increases as more students move into the district, and this growth in the student population requires more school funding. On top of that, money is needed to fund important programs like music and the arts, which are always in danger of being cut.

If we don’t increase the school taxes, the children of this community are the losers. My wife is a teacher in this district, and she has told me some sad facts about our schools. For example, did you know that our school district has not been able to purchase any new textbooks in the last ten years? Nor have the schools been able to buy any new library books or any new equipment for science and technology labs during that time. The number of music and art classes has been cut over the past few years along with the number of languages that are taught. Moreover, school district employees have not had an increase in wages for the last three years, and they have to pay more for their medical insurance.

What does all this mean? This means that employees actually make less now than they did three years ago. As a result, we have lost several talented teachers to other school districts. All these changes are bad for our community.

I urge you to support the proposed increase to the school levy in the upcoming election. Even people who don’t have children should support the school levy. After all, high-quality schools are very important to maintaining property values.

City Center Sleep Clinic

Who We Help Nonprofit Clinic

Do you suffer from insomnia? Do you sometimes sleepwalk? Do you snore too loudly? These and other sleep disorders are our specialty at City Center. We are a nonprofit community clinic that serves downtown and nearby neighborhoods. City Center charges minimal fees for its treatment programs and offers no-cost support groups. If you are plagued by sleep problems, we believe we can help you because our team goes the extra mile for every patient to ensure that everyone receives the best possible care.

Evaluation and Treatment Care Plan

Sleep difficulties can be caused by numerous factors. To determine the factors affecting each patient, our program begins with a complete health diagnosis that leads to a full evaluation of why someone is experiencing a particular sleep disorder. Our board-certified medical team develops a treatment plan based on these results. Some treatment plans include prescription drugs, while others rely more heavily on over-the-counter medications, therapy and counseling, and certain lifestyle changes that could include a change in diet, elimination of alcohol and caffeine, and establishing a daily exercise routine.

City Center Clinic is a nationally recognized facility for the treatment of sleep disorders. We are approved by the National Association of Sleep Medical Treatment. Our staff includes six medical doctors and nine accredited sleep specialists. When you finish your treatment, one of our sleep specialists will be assigned to your care to follow up on your progress for one year. Our goal is to control your sleep disorder.

Editor’s Note: Countless workers take temporary jobs as a way to enter the world of work or remain active in it. Two authors give their divergent viewpoints on the merits of doing so.

A Pragmatic Approach to Employment

By Thomas Low

Finding a new job can be daunting, particularly if you are looking for a first job in a new field. One approach to the problem is to pursue a temporary job. Temporary jobs often can be easier to come by than long-term positions. Securing a temporary position at a desirable company can lead to permanent employment if the employer likes your work and attitude. As you prioritize the steps in your job search, keep in mind that a temporary job at a solid company is the ideal way to get your foot in the door.

Additionally, if you are not exactly sure where your specific career interests lie, temporary work can be just the thing to expose you to a variety of career possibilities. Simultaneously you will be developing new skills and gaining real-world experience that can eventually help you land permanent employment. Never shy away from working as a “temp” because it can be the initial step that takes you down a fresh and rewarding career path.

A Lackluster Approach to Employment

By Michelle Tay

Settling for temporary work can be a dead end and a sure compromise of your career goals. With limited job security, you are reconciling yourself to a limited future. Yes, temporary work provides a paycheck, but it does so at the price of security.

Planning a financial future is challenging at best for anyone who makes a living hopping from job to job. Most temporary workers receive only a fraction of the salary earned by permanent employees. Additionally, the temporary employee can be stigmatized as the company short-timer and excluded from key meetings, email updates, and news of significant organizational developments. Permanent employees have been known to resent temporary employees and regard them as a hindrance to potential raises or opportunities for overtime hours. And remember that promotions and raises are not within the grasp of the temporary employee. Be proactive, avoid settling for less than you aspire to, and keep looking for that permanent position.
