We provide adult ESOL learners and teachers with high-quality, free Reading and Listening practice aligned to the latest CASAS STEPS standards. Our mission is to bridge the gap in educational resources, helping students build the skills and confidence needed for academic and professional success.
Our Story: Supporting Adult Learners
This platform was born out of a critical need observed in real ESOL classrooms. Teachers and students alike lacked free, accurate, and level-aligned materials for the CASAS STEPS assessments. We set out to change that by creating a digital library that mirrors the exact format of the official tests.
Meet the Creator Behind ESOL STEPS
ESOLSTEPS.com was created by Ernesto Juan Castellanos, an adult education instructor and coordinator with more than 40 years of teaching experience in college and adult education environments. Currently serving as a full-time Adult Education Instructor/Coordinator at Miami Dade College, Ernesto has worked extensively with ESOL students at multiple proficiency levels and has dedicated years to helping adult learners succeed academically and professionally.
Throughout his experience teaching ESOL and preparing students for high-stakes assessments, Ernesto recognized a major gap between traditional classroom curricula and the actual demands of the CASAS STEPS exam. Many students were completing courses successfully while still feeling unprepared for the complexity, vocabulary, timing, and digital format of the test itself.
That realization led to the creation of ESOLSTEPS.com.
Every practice quiz, reading activity, listening exercise, and strategy lesson on ESOLSTEPS.com is personally designed and developed based on real classroom experience, direct knowledge of the CASAS STEPS assessment, and years of observing the challenges adult ESOL students face during testing.
Rather than relying on generic ESOL materials, ESOLSTEPS.com focuses specifically on the skills, question types, task areas, and critical-thinking strategies students need to perform successfully on the CASAS STEPS exam.
The goal of this platform is simple: to provide students with the kind of targeted CASAS STEPS preparation that many adult education programs do not have the time or resources to fully offer in the classroom. By combining authentic CASAS-style practice with practical test-taking strategies, ESOLSTEPS.com was built to help students gain confidence, improve scores, and move forward toward their academic and career goals.
